The Struggle of Senior Citizens: Exposing the Troubles with Health Insurers in India
In the realm of health insurance in India, senior citizens like Mr. Vora often find themselves in challenging situations. His recent ordeal with Care Health Insurance sheds light on the difficulties older individuals face when dealing with insurers, irrespective of the type of policy.
For years, Mr. Vora held a steadfast health insurance policy
with United India Insurance Co Ltd (UIIC). However, seeking higher coverage and
better services, he opted to transition to Care Health Insurance, believing it
to be a prudent decision. Little did he know, this choice would lead to a
harrowing journey fraught with injustices and hardships.
Despite diligently disclosing all relevant information
during the policy solicitation process, Mr. Vora was met with a glaring lack of
transparency from Care Health Insurance. The policy was ported without
providing him with detailed terms and conditions or a comprehensive proposal
form, a blatant violation of regulatory guidelines.
In a cruel twist of fate, when Mr. Vora faced a medical
emergency in November 2023, Care Health Insurance callously denied his cashless
claim, citing an outdated diagnosis report from 2018. Despite the report's
findings falling within the normal range and certification by a qualified
physician, the insurer turned a blind eye to his plight, leaving him to bear
the burden of exorbitant hospitalization expenses.
Adding insult to injury, his reimbursement claim of
₹6,84,114 was summarily rejected on flimsy grounds of alleged non-disclosure
during the proposal process. Undeterred by these injustices, Mr. Vora has taken
a stand, invoking regulatory provisions and consumer protection laws to demand
accountability and justice.
With unwavering determination, he calls for a thorough
investigation of his case, the reinstatement of his policy with complete
benefits, and prompt approval of his reimbursement claim, along with accrued
interest.
As Mr. Vora continues his valiant fight for justice, his
story serves as a poignant reminder of the urgent need for regulatory reforms
to safeguard the interests of senior citizens in India's health insurance
domain.
